Liana Borkus, of St Francis of Assisi Catholic School in Mairehau, has won the 2019 Marian Foundation Scholarship to Marian College. The scholarship will be presented to Liana at the Marian College junior prize giving on Friday morning 14 December, the last day of school for 2018.

Liana was top ranked of all incoming Year 9 students from more than 30 primary and intermediate schools around greater Christchurch.

Liana is sister to Analise Borkus, who was a head student at Marian College in 2017.

The first Marian Foundation Scholarship was presented in 2006. Awarded annually, the scholarship covers financial contributions for two years initially and is renewed annually, subject to academic progress.

The Marian Foundation was established in 1998, under former Marian College Principal Bernadette Devonport. The Foundation is a trust administered by volunteers who donate their time and business knowledge. As well as funding scholarships, the Marian Foundation has provided significant funding for the benefit of Marian students.
